(EMU) – St. Kitts, April 5, 2018: The Ministry of Education continued the edification of teachers with an In-Service Training Workshop for New Teachers during the Easter Break, held at the Bird Rock Beach Hotel on 3rd-4th April.   In keeping with the trend of exposing teachers to new ideas and providing support and resources, the Ministry organized this workshop to assist with the teachers’ professional development. The brief In-Service Workshop was aimed at increasing school teachers’ knowledge of topics from classroom interactions to differentiated instructions. One of the major goals of in-service training is to provide motivation to new teachers and inspire them, which ultimately helps staff enhance their existing skills and learn new ones, ensuring that the Ministry continues to deliver quality service.

The Minister of Education, Hon. Shawn Richards, spoke briefly to the participants, reassuring them that their work is appreciated and the Ministry endeavours to support them in their professional deeds. “You are able to get valuable experience from these training sessions; we are ensuring that you get as much information possible that you may become more effective as teachers,” he added.

The 2017-2018 cohort of new teachers has been meeting weekly for interactive, creative and informative sessions delivered by past educators. The successful two-day workshop was the first to be organized in this manner, and the Ministry has been reassured that their attempt to promote highly qualified and motivated teachers is not in vain.
