St. Kitts and Nevis Diplomat Asha Desouza Rings NASDAQ Opening Bell with UN General Assembly President
Asha DeSuza, serving as the Second Team Leader for Sustainable Development and Financing for Development in the Office of the President of the General Assembly for the 78th Session, recently had the honor of participating in a significant event at the NASDAQ.Accompanied by a delegation, including the UN General Assembly Secretary-General, DeSuza joined in ringing the opening bell at the NASDAQ. In a social media post, she expressed the importance of the occasion, stating, “Ringing the NASDAQ Opening Bell with the President of the General Assembly, the Team, and Vice President-NASDAQ, ahead of the PGA’s signature event – the High-Level Thematic Debate on Debt Sustainability and Socio-Economic Equality for All, as part of the first-ever Sustainability Week.”DeSuza highlighted the significance of encouraging private sector involvement in addressing debt sustainability and promoting socio-economic equality. She emphasized the staggering wealth disparity globally, with 10% of the world’s population owning 76% of the global wealth. Additionally, she underscored the alarming surge in wealth among the world’s richest individuals while addressing the pressing issue of the global debt crisis, particularly its disproportionate impact on developing countries.”This debt crisis is a development crisis, and people all around the world are paying the price,” DeSuza noted, shedding light on the urgent need for collective action to address these systemic challenges.DeSuza’s participation in such a high-profile event demonstrates St. Kitts and Nevis’s commitment to global sustainability efforts and its active engagement on the international stage in advocating for socio-economic equality and development.
