St. Kitts-based broadcast journalist Andre Huie has launched an online radio station: Voice of the Caribbean Radio (VOC Radio). VOC Radio is an online Caribbean radio station designed exclusively for Caribbean listeners in the Diaspora and around the region who desire to stay in tuned to all things Caribbean. “We specialize in news and current affairs, sports and entertainment. We endeavor to provide original programs and programs produced by our partner radio stations around the region,” Huie said in a press release. Huie, formerly of WINN FM 98.9, manages the station, which was first commissioned last month. VOC Radio can be heard online at www.voiceofthecaribbean.net or on the Tune In Radio mobile app (search for Voice of the Caribbean Radio in Tune In). The station said it plans to launch mobile apps for Android and Apple devices soon.

VOC Radio features several programs including the Caribbean News Hour, which is a comprehensive Caribbean news package comprising the Carib Update News Service, the OECS Newslink and Caribbean Sports Roundup. The Caribbean News Hour also includes international news from United Nations Radio. Programs also featured on VOC Radio include The VOC Report, which features in depth interviews and presentations by some of the Caribbean’s top newsmakers with host Andre Huie; Caribbean Sports Talk—a program that focusses on the topical sports subjects in the Caribbean covering the respective countries in the region co-hosted by Leighton Levy, a sports analyst and broadcaster from Jamaica and Caribbean Newsroom—a weekly look at some of the Caribbean news happenings of the week analyzed by journalists across the region. Another program includes Inside Politics—a half-hour program focused on analyzing some of the news of the week in Caribbean politics with guest analysts from around the region. Persons wanting to listen to some of these programs on demand can also do so in the VOC On Demand page on the station’s website.

VOC Radio is not just about talk radio, the release added. There are several music programs including Caribbean Morning which airs at 8:00am Mondays to Saturdays. Caribbean Morning delivers the best in Caribbean music to start each. There is also Caribbean Classics, which airs Mondays to Saturdays from 2:00pm, featuring some of the legendary Caribbean artists of yesteryear. Gospel music lovers are also catered to with Morning Inspiration from 7am each day Mondays to Saturdays and G Vibes Monday to Saturday from 1pm to 2pm. VOC Radio also airs mostly religious programming on a Sundays as well.

Huie said VOC Radio aims to be a vital Pan Caribbean media service to the region and those in the Diaspora, providing comprehensive coverage of the region in areas that are often overlooked by other regional media entities. “We aim to be considered the first choice in radio broadcasting regarding the coverage of topical regional current affairs and entertainment,” Huie said of the station’s mission and goal. “Our tagline says it all: Reaching the Caribbean and beyond.” Huie added that in addition to plans to launch mobile apps for VOC Radio, he plans to introduce a wire news service on the website where persons can read some of the top news across the Caribbean.
