Ambassador Powell Mourns The Loss of A Mentor
Ambassador in the Ministries of Sports and Culture, His Excellency Jonel Powell has described the passing of former Educator and Chief Civil Servant Mr. Elvis Newton as the loss of a mentor.
Mr. Newton taught Ambassador Powell while he attended the Newtown Primary School now the Tucker-Clarke Primary.
“Mr Newton was not only a teacher and educator to myself and many others but a mentor to me both as a student and a young man. He was an educator and mentor for an entire generation of students many of whom have grown to become exemplary young men and women no doubt largely as a result of his guidance and mentorship during his tenure as an educator at the Newtown Primary School,” said Powell
“He was one of those stand out teachers that made a difference and never lost interest in his students, right to the end. I can still hear him now teaching us the lyrics to some of Sparrow’s greatest in grade 6,” Powell continued.
“I am truly saddened by his passing . He leaves a void not only in the hearts of many of us his former students, colleagues, friends, and family, but he also leaves a huge void in the soul and heart of our nation. Mr. Newton will be remembered as the consummate professional and a man brimmed with integrity and love for people and nation. He will be sorely missed,” Ambassador Powell con cluded
