Caribbean Young Leaders among 60 Awarded at Reception Hosted by Her Majesty the Queen

At a Reception hosted by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace some 60 Young people from throughout the Commonwealth were presented with Young Leaders awards by the Queen herself . The event marked the culmination of The Queen’s Young Leaders programme and the first successful winners of the Commonwealth project were presented with the awards on June 22, 2015.
St.Kitts-Nevis’ Javon “Pluto” Liburd was one of the 60 awardees. In a Social Media post he gave his account of his experience about his brief encounter with Her Majesty the Queen whilst she presented him with his award .

Liburd commented on the experience and stated “Very difficult explaining this feeling.
Im forever thankful for this moment. Meeting her majesty was amazing and chit chatting with her after (a minute tops) about St.kitts and Nevis, felt so unreal. Proud to rep #869 and would do so until I die.”

The Queens Young Leaders Awards is an initiative which seeks to award exceptional young people who’ve proved themselves to be inspiring leaders in their communities. Many of whom overcame challenges in their lives to do so.
Javon LiburdThis unique, life-changing Award is comprised of a tailored package of training and mentoring. Winners received a one-week residential programme in the UK, during which they will receive their Award from Her Majesty The Queen.
With this support, Award winners will be expected to continue and develop the amazing work they are already doing in their communities.
Eligible young people can apply or be nominated for an Award. Applications are now open for the 2016 Awards.
