St.Kitts-Nevis represented at 19th Conference of Commonwealth Education Ministers

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Hon. Shawn K Richards and Premier Vance W Amory along with Educator Ms Alexa Grant represented the federation of St.Kitts-Nevis at the 19th Conference of Commonwealth Education Ministers now being held at the World famous Atlantis Resorts, Paradise Island in the Bahamas.
The conference is organised jointly by the Commonwealth Secretariat and the Government of The Bahamas with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology serving as the lead agency.
The theme of the 19CCEM is “Quality Education for Equitable Development: Performance, Paths and Productivity”. This builds on the recommendations of the Commonwealth Ministerial Working Group (MWG) which was established following the 18CCEM.
The Conference takes place at a time when current Millennium Development Goals will come to an end and be replaced by a post-2015 development framework for education.
The forum opened with a call to ensure that the needs of small states are not eclipsed by the wider social development agenda.
In addition to the Ministerial Meeting, several other meetings and events will take place during the course of the week including the following:

Ms Alexa Grant who is an Educator and Former Culturama Queen will be participating in the Youth Forum where issues in youth development and strategies in addressing these issues and the challenges to go about implementing them will be discussed.
The 19th meeting of Commonwealth Education Ministers – or 19CCEM – is held every three years and brings together government ministers, policymakers, teachers, civil society, academics and students. This year’s theme will focus on quality and skills, within the context of new development goals in education.
