BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, November 10, 2018 (PLP PR Media Inc.) — In his twenty five years as the Member of Parliament for St. Christopher Seven, Prime Minister Dr the Hon Timothy Harris has touched the lives of all – old and young – not only in the constituency but the entire country. The youths in Constituency Number Seven are congratulating Dr Harris as he celebrates the 25th anniversary of service to his people.
“I am proud to be here representing the youths of Constituency Number Seven in honouring the Honourable Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris on his 25th anniversary as our parliamentary representative,” said Mr Manasses Huggins who was a panellist at the Press Conference held on Thursday 8th November at the Edgar T. Morris Primary School in Tabernacle to unveil activities that mark the 25th anniversary of Dr Harris as the parliamentary representative for Constituency Number Seven.
Mr Huggins, who was on the five-person press conference panel as one of the two youth representatives, said he received a scholarship while in college from an anonymous benefactor. He made his research and found out that it was his Member of Parliament Dr the Hon Timothy Harris who would have done it, not for clout or to be noticed otherwise he would have advertised who he was.
“Dr Harris did it because he saw a young individual who he felt needed the assistance, and believe me, having that scholarship went a long way in terms of helping me get through CFBC,” said Mr Huggins. “He spoke to my parents in terms of encouraging me to better myself.”
While making his closing remarks, and wishing Prime Minister Harris another twenty five years of service, Mr Huggins said: “It is not just about me – you go around Constituency Seven and St. Kitts and you would see like different youths throughout the different communities who would give stories in ways in which Dr Harris has influenced them and has contributed in terms of their own person growth.”
Dr Harris was first elected to parliament as the representative for St. Christopher Seven on November 29, 1993. He was re-elected with increased vote margins in 1995, 2000, 2004, and 2010. As the National Political Leader of the Peoples Labour Party (PLP) and leader of the three-party alliance, Team Unity, made up of the PLP, the People’s Action Movement (PAM) and the Nevis-based Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) in the 2015 elections Dr Harris was re-elected and became the third Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis.
The other youth representative on the press conference panel Ms Trevlyn Stapleton said: “I just would like the listening audience to know that the Prime Minister has the full support from us the youth, especially in him celebrating his 25th anniversary. So do expect to see us rallying with him at the upcoming events, whether it is the Legacy Walk, the gospel concert or the motorcade, we will be coming and will be rallying with him with full force.”
The five-person press conference panel was chaired by Mr Antonio Maynard, who is also the Deputy Chair for the Planning and Steering Committee for Constituency Number Seven – Celebrating 25 Years of Service by Dr the Hon Timothy Harris, which is chaired by Mr Anthony Ross, QC. Others on the press conference panel were Mrs Elreter Simpson-Browne, and Mr William Phillip.
