Kim Collins is a National Treasure Says St.Kitts-Nevis Foreign Affairs Minister
Legendary Caribbean Sprinter Kim Collins is being praised and labeled as a national treasure by Minister of Foreign Affairs of St.Kitts-Nevis and Deputy Premier of Nevis the Hon. Mark Brantley . Brantley made the declaration after Collins historic appearance in the 2016 Rio Olympics . Collins became the first male sprinter in history to participate in 5 Olympics . He also became the oldest Olympic 100m Semifinalist in history . Collins ran a 10.13 secs race in a semifinal heat that included the eventual Olympic Champion Usain Bolt.
Minister Brantley lauded the historic success of Collins and stated “Allow me to take a moment to congratulate Kim Collins who at 40 has just made history running in his 5th Olympic Games and becoming the fastest man in the world over 40 years.”
Brantley went on to praise the historic nature of Collins accomplishments and the significance to the federation of St.Kitts Nevis.
“ What this man has done for St Kitts and Nevis, the smallest Nation in the Hemisphere, defies explanation. Kim Collins is a national treasure and I feel proud today as a citizen of this great land that he has done more to put St Kitts Nevis on a global stage than any other citizen has ever done. Kim Collins exemplifies what is good and great about us and our Kittivisian spirit. His exploits tell us all and especially our youth that we are limited not by the circumstances of our birth but only by the extent of our ambitions,” said Brantley
Brantley concluded by wishing soliciting God’s blessings on Collins and the federation.
“ May God continue to bless Kim Collins and may His grace and mercy continue to abide with St Kitts and Nevis now and forever more,” Brantley concluded
Collins capped what has been a historic career. He is regarded as a sprint legend having had a career that is un-matched as far as consistency and longevity . He holds the World Masters Record of 9.93 secs which is the fastest any human being 35 years or older has ever ran. He continues to hold the national record and even at 40 remains one of fastest Human Beings on the planet.
