The Pierre Administration Intensifies Efforts to Strengthen Public Health Infrastructure

Castries, Saint Lucia – Prime Minister Hon. Philip J. Pierre and the Government of Saint Lucia are ramping up efforts to enhance the nation’s public health infrastructure, aiming to reduce healthcare costs and improve access to essential medical services.

Recognizing the strain on existing medical institutions, the government has earmarked significant funding to expand and upgrade key healthcare facilities. Among the flagship projects is the construction of a Fifth Wing at the Owen King EU (OKEU) Hospital, designed to increase bed capacity and improve operational efficiency.

Additionally, the long-awaited completion of the new St. Jude Hospital has been prioritized, alongside the establishment of a state-of-the-art urgent care facility at the Dr. Betty Wells Urban Polyclinic. These initiatives are expected to alleviate overcrowding, streamline service delivery, and ensure that Saint Lucians receive timely, high-quality care.

Prime Minister Pierre reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to advancing the public health agenda, emphasizing the importance of robust infrastructure to support the well-being of all citizens.

“These investments are not just about expanding facilities but also about ensuring every Saint Lucian has access to reliable and affordable healthcare,” said Prime Minister Pierre.

The projects are anticipated to create a ripple effect, boosting employment opportunities in the construction and healthcare sectors while enhancing the nation’s overall health outcomes. The Pierre Administration continues to prioritize the health and safety of its citizens as a cornerstone of its governance agenda.
