BASSETERRE (15TH December, 2015): Golf Teams from Ontario and along with their non-golfing guests enjoyed the lush natural beauty and warm hospitality of St. Kitts, during the first Annual St. Kitts 2Ball Invitational held last week.

The St. Kitts Tourism Association in collaboration with the Golf Association of Ontario hosted the St. Kitts 2Ball Invitational, as part of a 3-year partnership to drive golf travel from the Canadian market.  Also taking part in the tournament were Golf Media and key influencers to report on the quality of the golfing experience that St. Kitts and Nevis has to offer.

Minister of Tourism, International Trade, Industry and Commerce, The Hon. Lindsey F.P. Grant, made the featured address at the tournament’s awards banquet, which was held at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort.

“Canada is a very important source market for our golf tourism initiatives, particularly the Province of Ontario area where there are 2.3 million golfers generating more than 11-million dollars in total golf spending annually,” Minister Grant said. “I am indeed excited to have you here in St. Kitts and Nevis and I hope you will all go back to Ontario and help us spread the word on why St. Kitts and Nevis is a golf destination worth considering now and in the future.”

Rounds one and two were played on the links-style Royal St. Kitts Golf Club, an 18-hole course featuring holes on both the Caribbean and Atlantic that’s managed by Marriott Golf.  The tournament also comprised of teams made up of St. Kitts residents.

The group also travelled to Nevis for a practice round at the Four Seasons Resort on a 18-hole Robert Trent Jones II designed championship mountain-side course, which overlooks the Caribbean Sea and St. Kitts, with a spectacular beach-side finishing the 18th green

Chief Executive Officer of the St. Kitts Tourism Authority, Racquel Brown, said her team has been working diligently in Ontario and across Canada, to build awareness for St. Kitts & Nevis as a world-class, twin-island golf destination within this affluent target niche demographic.

“The destination will be in an excellent position to expand our golf tourism market with the addition of championship courses at Kittitian Hill and Christophe Harbour, along with new luxury resorts like Belmont Farm, Park Hyatt, and the Koi Resort,” CEO Brown said.

All players and guests enjoyed the hospitality and renowned service of the St. Kitts Marriott Resort & Royal Beach Casino, the host hotel for the event.
