ST.KITTS: Shottas wins Inagural Hugely Successful Ian “Patches” Liburd Basketball Tournament
The Newtown Basketball HardCourt became alive with excitement as the First Annual Ian “Patches” LIBURD Basketball knockout tournament was held this past Sunday May 24th.
Some 10 team participated in the Tournament including Teams representing different areas in East Basseterre as well as two teams representing the Spanish community. The Ten Participating Teams were Project Crew, Bird Rock, Taylor’s, Shottas, Lady panthers, Cum Drunk, Zorros, Los Dominicanos, Riderz and the Old Men.
The Shottas and the Bird Rock Uprisers faced off in an exciting Final Game which saw Shottas taking the inaugural tournament trophy. Shottas Regan Matthew was named Tournament MVP.
Constituency Representative Ian “Patches” Liburd was on hand to witness the tournament an used the opportunity to interact with scores of his constituents . Liburd not only hoste the tournament but also ensured that the hardcourt received a well deserved face-lift. The court now boasts modern glass backboard with new polls and a new paint job.
In just 3 months since becoming the Constituency representative of East Basseterre Liburd has already developed the reputation of being the most active and interactive representative in the areas history. Some of his regular activities includes regular house to house visits of the elderly and shut-ins as well as the conducting and facilitation of after school programmes at the Newtown Community Center.
