Saudi Arabia Donates 21 Containers of Humanitarian Aid to Grenada Following Hurricane Beryl

ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA – January 27, 2025 – The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has provided a significant humanitarian donation of 21 containers filled with essential supplies to the Government and people of Grenada to support recovery efforts following the devastation caused by Hurricane Beryl in July 2024.

The relief items, valued at 5.3 million XCD, include chainsaws, diesel generators, rechargeable hand flashlights, first aid and hygiene kits, and emergency shelter materials, among other critical resources. The supplies were officially handed over to Prime Minister Honourable Dickon Mitchell during a ceremony held at the Port Authority Welcome Centre on Monday.

This generous contribution is part of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center’s global efforts to provide assistance to communities in need, particularly in the aftermath of natural disasters.

In his remarks, His Excellency Abdullah Muhammad Alsaihani, Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Venezuela, emphasized the dual purpose of the aid—to address urgent recovery needs and to strengthen the bonds of friendship between Saudi Arabia and Grenada.

Prime Minister Honourable Dickon Mitchell expressed heartfelt gratitude for the timely assistance, highlighting the critical role of international partnerships in bolstering disaster preparedness and recovery efforts. “We are truly appreciative that, despite global challenges and conflicts, Saudi Arabia has extended its generosity to help ordinary people, particularly in Carriacou, Petite Martinique, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, who were deeply impacted by the hurricane,” he stated.

The Prime Minister also acknowledged the importance of the CARICOM-Saudi Arabia Summit, held in November 2023, in facilitating this vital support.

The donated supplies will:

  • Provide essential support to affected communities.
  • Replenish critical resources for emergency shelters and disaster response.
  • Enhance Grenada’s preparedness for future climate-related challenges.

This donation underscores Saudi Arabia’s commitment to sustainable development and its global humanitarian mission. It also highlights the strengthening bilateral relations between CARICOM member states and the Kingdom, reinforcing a shared vision for international collaboration and resilience in the face of climate change.
