Retired Supt. Nelson Stapleton Passes Away After 34 Years of Dedicated Service

The Royal St. Kitts and Nevis Police Force and the wider community mourn the loss of Retired Superintendent of Police Nelson Stapleton, who passed away on January 8, 2025. His distinguished career in law enforcement spanned an impressive 34 years and 5 months, with 24 years dedicated to serving the Nevisian community.

Enlisted as a constable on August 16, 1969, Stapleton rose through the ranks to achieve the esteemed position of Superintendent of Police before retiring on February 10, 2004. His decades of service were marked by unwavering integrity, fairness, and dedication to upholding justice.

A tribute written by Constable R. Myers highlighted Stapleton’s many virtues, describing him as a man of noble character with strength, perseverance, and effective leadership. He was recognized as a team player who worked diligently to serve his community while fostering strong relationships with his colleagues.

His son, Nelson Ald Stapleton Jr., shared a heartfelt post on social media, expressing profound grief over his father’s passing. He wrote:
“My dad was my first and greatest hero. Growing up, I thought he was the strongest man alive… His strength wasn’t just physical—it was the strength of his character, his resolve, and his unwavering love.”

He also reflected on his father’s role as a family man, saying:
“As a husband to my mom, he was the embodiment of devotion. He loved her deeply and consistently, with a quiet strength that spoke louder than any words.”

Nelson Stapleton was not only a protector and leader but also a man of faith. His passion for singing hymns was a reflection of his deep spirituality, and his voice brought comfort to many who heard him.

The family plans to celebrate his remarkable life on February 10th, 2025, which coincides with what would have been his birthday. A memorial service will honor his legacy, featuring the hymns he cherished.

The community remembers him not only as a distinguished police officer but as a compassionate, hardworking, and principled individual who left an indelible mark on those he served.

As his son fittingly quoted, “The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.”
