BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, (FEBRUARY 23RD, 2017)— The Popularity of the Prime Minister Dr. Hon Timothy Harris led Team UNITY Administration continues to surge as more and more benefit from the plethora of new and enlightned people centered policies that have been implemented and pursued by the new administration .

Many of the new policies as well as the popularity of the 2 year old government has been evidenced in a series of activities that took place over the last few weeks which highlighted the 2nd anniversary of the Team UNITY Government which comprises a coalition of three major parties in the CCM, PLP and PAM.

Thousands have showed up to a number of events including a Gospel Concert and a Love, Peace and UNITY Rally. The launch of the Team UNITY government’s Housing Solutions Programme and the Prime Minister Cocktail Reception also saw massive crowds coming out to give support to the administration and their new and enlightened policies and initiatives.

The Team UNITY Good Governance and Accountability for Prosperity Public Forum Townhall Series has evidenced as well the continued surging popularity of the administration. The most recent forum held at the OOJJ’s Conference Center in West Basseterre saw a packed conference center of close to 300 persons on Tuesday, February 21st, 2017.

RECENT TEAM UNITY GOOD GOVERNANCE PUBLIC FORUM

Prime Minister Dr. Hon. Timothy Harris in addressing the huge audience highlighted a number of the initiatives that his government has undertaken which has benefited and will benefit thousand of citizens, families, businesses etc. He received a thunderous round of applause when he referenced the Unity Housing Solutions Program, which will see some 300 families throughout St. Kitts achieve affordable home ownership and the economy benefit from an even more vibrant construction industry, resulting in job creation and greater opportunities for upward mobility. 

“When we start to build $50 million dollars’ worth of housing this year, thousands of people must feel the vibes of Team Unity at work,” Prime Minister Harris said, also noting that, “When it comes to the ordinary people…through the length and breadth of St. Kitts and Nevis, all these ordinary folks want is a little help, a little help to start.” 

The administrations removal of 17 percent VAT on food, medicines, educational supplies and funeral expenses since April 7th, 2015 according to local economic assessments and stats and as is seen with the record sales activity at local companies like TDC and Horsford’s the citizenry has experienced an increase in their purchasing power.  Consumer spending has rebounded significantly since the removal of the VAT , as seen in the strong performance of the wholesale and retail sector, which grew by 9.13 percent in 2015 compared to a meager 0.35 percent in 2014.  In 2012, the wholesale and retail sector had shrunk by a whopping 10.85 percent. 

 

The Fresh Start Loan Programme which has seen over 427 successful applicants and the Sugar Workers gratuity payments which to date has seen over 2003 former sugar workrs receive their due gratuity payments have all helped to give the new SKN Government their continued surge in popularity among the citizens.
