Fulbright Scholarships Available for Eastern Caribbean Students

 

The Fulbright Program offers scholarship opportunities to faculty, non-U.S. students, U.S. students and professionals. Past Fulbright Scholars from Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean have studied law, business, economics, and statistics.

Scholarships for citizens of the Eastern Caribbean

Fulbright Foreign Student Scholarship – The application period is currently closed.

The Fulbright Graduate Student Program also known as the Foreign Student Program is targeted to qualified graduates, with a first- or upper second- class honors Bachelor’s degree, who wish to pursue graduate studies at the Master’s or a Ph.D. degree level. Past Fulbright Scholars from Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean have studied law, business, economics, and statistics. Applicants are required to take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT), based on the field of study and they must submit their GRE or GMAT scores along with their applications to be considered for interview.

When the application period opens, applicants must use this link to apply for the program, https://apply.embark.com/student/fulbright/international/20 . They should create an account and electronically submit the application by the stated deadline.

(LASPAU) Fulbright Scholarship – Applications will be accepted from February 1, 2017 and the deadline will be May 1, 2017. 

This year the Latin American Scholarship Program of American Universities (LASPAU) is using a new application platform. Before filling out the application, candidates will be asked to fill out a Fulbright Applicant Information Form. Once they have completed the form, they will receive an email with a direct link to the full Fulbright application. Here is a general flyer about the Fulbright program. Supporting documents should be uploaded electronically directly to the online application. These documents include: CV, Statement of Purpose, Transcripts, Passport Identification Page, and the Nominating Institution Verification form, if required. Please read the Checklist of Required Academic Documents, which outlines these requirements in greater detail.  

Fulbright Faculty Development Scholarship – The application period is currently closed. 

The Fulbright Faculty Development program offers opportunities for community college and university faculty from abroad to engage in graduate study at U.S. universities. Applicants must be nominated by their Eastern Caribbean college or university. 

Fulbright NEXUS Scholarship – The application period is currently closed. 

The Fulbright Regional Network for Applied Research (NEXUS) program is a network of junior scholars, professionals and mid-career applied researchers from the United States and other Western Hemisphere nations participating in a program that includes multi-disciplinary, team-based research, a series of three seminar meetings, and a two to three-month research exchange visit to the United States. 

Standardized Testing

Most Fulbright applicants will be required to take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).  For further information on the GRE go the GRE website.

Those applicants who are applying for a Fulbright scholarship in order to be admitted to an MBA program will need to write the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT).  For further information please visit the GRE website.

Accreditation

Your desired graduate institution of choice must be accredited.  Please review the U.S. Department of Education’s Database of Accredited Postsecondary Institutions and Programs.

Foreign Residency Requirement

When you participate in a Fulbright program, you will be subject to the two-year, home-country foreign residency requirement.  You must return to your home country for a cumulative total of two years at the end of your Fulbright program.  You are not prohibited from travelling to the United States but may not benefit from certain employment-based or family based visas until the foreign residency requirement is satisfied.
