Newest St. Kitts and Nevis Chevening Scholar Named

 Basseterre, St. Kitts 30 August, 2017-The St. Kitts and Nevis Chevening Alumni Association is beyond ecstatic to welcome the newest member to the Chevening family- Mr. Crios R. Freeman! Crios emerged from a pool of applicants from the Eastern Caribbean and Barbados, as the only person from St. Kitts and Nevis to cop one of the prestigious Chevening scholarships. His award makes EIGHT (8) consecutive years that at least one citizen of St. Kitts and Nevis has won the award. He will pursue his master’s degree in Corporate and Commercial Law at Queen Mary, University of London beginning September 2017. Six other persons from St. Lucia and Grenada were also successful this year. 

 

As a recipient of the scholarship, Mr. Freeman will have an opportunity to bond with some of the world’s brightest minds and join the global network of Chevening scholars, who have been deemed future leaders and influencers. His scholarship will cover all costs including full tuition, return airfare, academic expenses and a monthly stipend to assist with living expenses.

 

Freeman hails from the village of St. Pauls, St. Kitts. He holds two bachelor degrees from the University of the West Indies in Economics and Law, having graduated in 2009 and 2015 respectively. Earlier this year he completed the requirements for a Certificate of Legal Education, which would enable him to practice law.Prior to, and intermittently between his periods of study, Crios was employed as Assistant Secretary and Finance Officer in the Office of the Prime Minister.

 

Outside of his professional and academic exploits, he enjoys sports and community work. He has been a player or member of the S. L. Horsfords St. Pauls Football Club for the past nineteen years.He is also an alumnus and past president of the St. Kitts National Youth Parliament Association and member and past President of the Constituency #6 and St. Kitts and Nevis Labour Party Youth Arms. Through his activism, Crios has represented the Federation in a number of youth and policy centered fora internationally.

We wish him every success as he prepares to embark on this new academic journey in London.
