Hundreds of Republic Bank Customers Outraged Over Debiting of Funds for Delayed Transactions

Republic Bank customers in St. Kitts and Nevis have been left outraged after discovering that funds were debited from their accounts for transactions dating back almost three years. Many customers took to social media to express their disgust over the bank’s actions, which resulted in numerous accounts going into the negative. One customer, in a message to popular blogger Everton Powell, described waking up to find their account in the negative thousands after the bank debited funds and still charged posting fees for transactions. Another customer shared their distress, stating that the bank went back to 2021 and claimed they owed thousands of dollars, leading them to consider closing their accounts. The bank attributed the issue to delays in processing e-commerce and point-of-sale transactions, promising to post all outstanding transactions by April 29, 2024. However, customers were left enraged and confused, believing that these transactions had already been cleared during the specified period. While Republic Bank assured customers that any resulting overdraft and service fees would be reversed, many expressed outrage over the lack of transparency and accountability. In neighboring Anguilla, Premier Dr. Ellis Webster issued a statement addressing the matter, yet Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew of St. Kitts and Nevis has remained silent on the issue, further fueling frustration among affected customers.
