Foreign Affairs Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas Attends Global Blockchain Congress in Dubai

Basseterre, St. Kitts & Nevis – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Denzil Douglas, is once again off-island, this time traveling to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where he is attending the 14th Edition of the Global Blockchain Congress at the J.W. Marriott Marquis Hotel.

In a social media post, Dr. Douglas shared details about his participation, stating that he was invited as a Guest in his capacity as Minister of Investment and Economic Development. The forum brings together investors from around the world to discuss the evolving landscape of blockchain technology and digital economies.

During the event, Dr. Douglas highlighted St. Kitts and Nevis’ commitment to economic growth through digital transformation, emphasizing the government’s push to utilize Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Blockchain technology as tools for development.

“This Blockchain Congress is in fact the first for this year here in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. There will be another held later this year here and others have been held in other countries like Singapore and China,” Dr. Douglas noted.

He further stated that St. Kitts and Nevis has been recognized as an emerging leader in digital economic development within the Caribbean Region, reinforcing the government’s intent to integrate blockchain technology into its economic framework.

Beyond the conference, Dr. Douglas engaged with St. Kitts and Nevis nationals and business professionals in Dubai, exploring opportunities for economic expansion and foreign direct investment. He also expressed interest in positioning St. Kitts and Nevis as a future host country for the Global Blockchain Congress.

“This is why St. Kitts and Nevis had to be present at this Congress, and we are hoping to be a host country in the future as we come to terms with the cryptocurrency realities of the times and the global acceptability of CBI and the Global Virtual/Digital Citizen,” he stated.

The Global Blockchain Congress serves as a critical platform for governments, investors, and tech industry leaders to collaborate on innovations in cryptocurrency, fintech, and digital identity solutions.

Dr. Douglas’ latest international engagement follows his recent official trips to India and other global summits, raising questions about the frequency of overseas travel by the Minister and its impact on domestic governance. However, his supporters argue that such engagements position St. Kitts and Nevis as a competitive player in the digital economy and investment sectors.

Is blockchain the future for St. Kitts & Nevis?

As discussions around digital transformation gain momentum, the participation of government leaders like Dr. Douglas signals a shift toward embracing blockchain and AI-driven economic models. Whether this vision materializes into tangible benefits for citizens remains to be seen.
