Basseterre, St. Kitts, July 08, 2019 (SKNIS): A number of families throughout St. Kitts will benefit from a generous donation of baby care items to be distributed across the 11 clinics throughout the Federation.
Just over 3000 diapers and 120 bags containing wipes, clothing, blankets, manicure sets et cetera were handed over on Monday, July 08, 2019 by Giselle Matthews, President of the Pediatric Assistance League of St. Kitts-Nevis (PALS) to the Ministry of Health for use in the various clinics .
Dr. Keisha Liddie, Acting Director of Community Health Services, accepted the donation and expressed thanks to PALS and the donors for the items.
“On behalf of the Community-Based Services in the Ministry of Health, I will like to say thank you… for these items. I know that there is a longstanding relationship between PALS and World Pediatric Project and the Ministry of Health, a relationship such that many children’s lives have been saved on a daily basis. And many children’s circumstances would not be the same today if it wasn’t for the hard work of these two societies,” said Dr. Liddie. “I am happy that the benefits can be extended to the recipients of these items, particularly the mothers and children who attend our clinics.”
Giselle Matthews, President of PALS, noted that the donation came from a company that visited St. Kitts several weeks ago, through their destination management company in St. Kitts, Sun Link. She thanked the Ministry of Education for affording them the opportunity to assist where necessary.
“We would like to say a huge thank you to the Ministry for allowing us the opportunity and we hope that we will be able to do much more of this as we build our relationship together. I hope that the parents and the babies will benefit from this donation,” said the president.
Mrs. Matthews said that “Sun Link handles corporate programmes that come through the various hotels on the island and this particular company wanted to donate and do a charity event with their incentive group while staying at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort…”
