Ex St.Kitts-Nevis PM Douglas and Popular Radio Station Freedom FM Facing Legal Action after Airing of False, Malicious and Libellous Allegations
Basseterre, St.Kitts( September 3, 2016 –Times Caribbean) Ex Prime Minister of St.Kitts-Nevis Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas is once again in hot water after a public statement made on Friday September 2, 2016 on a Popular St.Kitts radio station Freedom FM 106.5. The ousted Prime Minister took to the airwaves to make an Official Broadcast to the Nation and made what is being described as False, Malicious and Libellous Allegations about the Prime Minister of St.Kitts-Nevis Dr. Timothy Harris. According to Dr. Douglas statements he accuses PM Harris of threatening his life through a social media pseudonym or fake profile known as “Mable Richards”. The statement immediately drew widespread condemnation from nationals home and abroad who showed their disgust and outrage in the Leader of the Opposition Dr. Douglas’ attempt to associate Prime Minister Harris with the psuedeonym as well as associating PM Harris with any threat on the life of the Leader of the \Opposition Dr. Douglas . Many saw Dr. Douglas’ statement as highly irresponsible .
In an official statement issued on Saturday September 3rd it was indicated that legal counsel of the Prime Minister, Thomas W.R. Astaphan QC has commenced Legal action against both Freedom FM 106.5 and Dr. Douglas for the publications of the false, malicious and libellous allegations. Astaphan as at Midday on Saturday September 3rd had already communicated to Freedom FM 106.5 regarding the commencement of legal action and the station has since removed the statement from both their Facebook page and Website.

On Friday, 2nd September, 2016, at about 3:30 pm Dr. the Honourable Denzil L. Douglas, leader of the defeated St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party, made a public statement on Freedom FM 106.5 radio alleging as against Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, Prime Minister and Minister of National Security et al. in the Federal Government of St. Christopher and Nevis certain matters which are false, malicious and libellous.
Freedom FM 106.5 published said false, malicious and libellous statement on its Facebook page. As soon as the offending publications were brought to his attention, the Hon. Prime Minister immediately engaged Thomas W.R. Astaphan QC in the matter, and after Queen’s Counsel communicated with Freedom FM 106.5 last evening, the offending Posts were removed from its Facebook page.
The Hon. Prime Minister’s Counsel has commenced Legal action against both Freedom FM 106.5 and Dr. Douglas for the publications of these false, malicious and libellous allegations.
Justice will now take its course.
