East Basseterre Fishnet Festival Launch: A Huge Success!
Basseterre, St.Kitts, Monday 15th August 2016 – Hundreds of patrons swarmed the Newtown Hard-court Dubbed the Fishpot Village to witness what many refer to as a mega kick-off launch of the East Basseterre FishNet Festival on Friday 12th August 2016.
During a light ceremony, Honorable Ian “Patches “Liburd – East Basseterre Representative and Minister responsible for Public Infrastructure, Post Urban Development, and Transport officially welcomed the patrons to the East Basseterre Festival.
“Welcome to one of the greatest community festival. We hope that you are prepared for what is to come! Let us be proud in our East Basseterre community and what it has to offer.”
Raphael Rodney affectionately known as “Phonse” and Chairman of the East Basseterre Fishnet Festival Committee explained to patrons how the festival got its unique name,
“FishNet came about to highlight East Basseterre’s strengths as a community. “Fish” – because Newtown boasts of its expertise in Fishing. Some of the best local restaurants source for fishes comes from right here in Newtown and for that we are proud. The “Net” represent our expertise in sporting events such as – Football, Basketball, Netball and Cricket. Hence, the “East Basseterre FishNet Festival” homage to our strengths and building on those strengths in our community.”
The evening saw entertainment from local acts such as TNO Sounds, Sweet Sister Sensia, Small Axe Band and Rapping Sensation Mod Stoney.
The highlight of the event occurred when Mod Stoney gave what seemed to be his ‘Smallest” biggest fan the opportunity to sing along with him on stage. The young boy wowed the crowd as he sang word for word to Stoney’s hit “How You Mean!”
A Hawaiian Themed Troupe climaxed the launch combusting the stage with colors symbolizing mass and splendor of the FishNet Festival by Earl Jones. Those who are interested in this vibrant troupe are asked to contact Earl “Ebo” Jones at 1 869 760 6401.
The Nu Vybes International Band rocked the “Fresh Outta Plastic” Festival crowd into the wee hours of the morning. It was only then lead singer Gregory “Mention” Hobson further built anticipation throughout the crowd as he mentioned the “Sugar Band” performance for the Fishnet Festival Jouvert morning.
The launch ended approximately 4:00am.
The Minister, Committee Members and the entire East Basseterre Community express deep gratitude to those that came out and supported this positive movement.
