DLP Signals Unity and Renewal with First 15 Candidates for 2027 Election

The Democratic Labour Party (DLP) has unveiled its first slate of 15 candidates for the next general election, constitutionally due in 2027, signaling a fresh sense of purpose and unity.

During a press conference at the party’s headquarters on Tuesday, Opposition Leader Ralph Thorne declared the DLP ready to offer a credible alternative to the ruling Barbados Labour Party (BLP).

“We are at peace, and we are united,” Thorne stated, addressing lingering doubts about the party’s internal cohesion after months of infighting. “Let no voice in this country tell you anything other than that. We speak honestly, and the public knows we have endured battles. Those battles have ended.”

The candidate lineup features a mix of experienced political figures, returning hopefuls, and newcomers, reflecting a strategic approach to appeal to a broad voter base.

Key candidates include former government ministers Dr. David Estwick (St. Philip West) and Richard Sealy (St. Michael South Central). Returning contenders include Senator Ryan Walters (St. Michael North West), Pedro Shepherd (St. Michael South East), Neil Marshall (St. Philip South), and Senator Andre Worrell (St. Michael Central).

The new faces rounding out the team are Alvin Toppin (St. Lucy), Amory Gilding-Bourne (Christ Church East), Andrew Cave (Christ Church West), Dr. Dawn-Marie Armstrong (St. Michael North), Dr. Roleric Hinds (St. Thomas), Nathaniel Boyce (St. Michael South), Randal Rouse (St. Joseph), Shaquani Hunte (St. Michael West), and Dale Rowe (City of Bridgetown).

Thorne’s declaration of unity and the unveiling of this diverse candidate pool mark the DLP’s most significant step forward since its internal struggles, positioning the party as a formidable force in the lead-up to the next general election.
