De Bear Makes History as he Wins Leeward Islands Calypso Monarch Again
Kiethroy “De Bear” Morson is once again a top of the Calypso heap as he dominated the Annual Leeward Islands Calypso Monarch Competition held at the Landsdowne Event Center in Anguilla.
The reigning Antigua and Monsterat Carnival King gave a sound beating to all with 842 points some 25 points ahead of the first runner-up and defending Leeward Islands King Ricvhie Buntin who amassed some 817 pts. Anguilla’s Repeater amassed a total of 774 pts.
The competition was clearly De Bear’s as both his 1st and 2nd round renditions were very well received by the Anguillan crowd and obviously by the judges as well.
This is the second time De Bear has won the Leeward Islands Title. In 2012 he was announced the winner along with Kittitian King Konris.
De Bear’s win was a historic one as it is the first time that a reigning King of two separate Islands has won the title.
De Bear is originally from Monsterrat but has been living in Antigua for the last 15 years.
Notable performances came from the Federation King of St.Kitts-Nevis Astro as well as Sister Joyce from the BVI.
