ST GEORGE’S, Grenada (CMC) – The Guyana government says it will not pay US $500,000 dollars to organisers of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) until it sees a contract with details of work done.

Finance Minister Winston Jordan has confirmed that his government has received an invoice finance reflecting the amount to be paid to the CPL.

Jordan has also disclosed that the CPL was threatening legal action if the money was not paid.

“I have no intentions of paying it, not until I see a contract and see who signed off on it and so forth. I just can’t pay out money like that,” Jordan maintained.

“There has been no contract, nothing at all, yet they’ve submitted an invoice and are now threatening legal action”.

The Finance Minister says although the invoices presented were signed by an overseas agent linked with CPL, they is no clear indication as to who reportedly contracted CPL services.

“I’m not paying it unless I see substantial evidence that there was a contract signed for services, that the services were performed and that the services were performed satisfactorily,” said Jordan, who became the country’s new finance minister after general elections resulted in a change of government last month.

“Whoever contracted them has to know where they are getting the money from”

Guyana is down to host the next phase of the matches in the CPL from July 15th.

  1. Ha! ha! ha!…..he! he! heeee! He sounds like a Forensic Accountant. I FULLY agree with him. There must be checks & balances before suppliers and creditors get pay. That is the best way to stamp out Fraud and Corruption. If he bows to everybody demands without having the necessary documents to substantiate their claims, then he will be accused of swindling the treasury (taxpayers) and hiding the money in offshore bank accounts. A lot of allegations will be made against him; and he would have to live with them for the rest of his life.
