Carnival Cruise Lines Apologises as Technical Problems Prevent Carnival Liberty From Docking In St.Kitts
The St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority today confirmed that the scheduled port call of the Carnival Liberty was cancelled. According a release the cancellation was a decision made by Carnival Cruise Line due to heavy winds and technical issues with the ship’s thruster system.
The ship thruster system, which moves the ship sideways, is important in safely docking the ship in strong winds. The wind conditions in St. Kitts exceeded the limits that the Captain deemed to be viable for a successful docking operation.
According to Carnival Cruise Lines they are currently rectifying the thruster system and will inform authorities at SCASPA of the repairs and all options to consider for safe docking of future calls.
The Carnival Liberty has replaced the Carnival Valor on its weekly (Friday) calls to St. Kitts as of March 23, 2015 for the remainder of the season.
“We really appreciate the patience and support provided by the government of St. Kitts and Nevis through this process. Carnival Cruise Line values our partnership with the Government, the Port and the people of St. Kitts who continue to deliver fantastic experiences for our guests,” said Carlos Torres de Navarra, Vice President, Commercial Port Operations for Carnival Cruise Line.
If the rumours are true and it’s stopping in Antigua instead, I will forgive them.
