Authorities are reportedly working through diplomatic channels to contact the student’s family as the circumstances surrounding her death remain under investigation.

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, September 8, 2026 (Times Caribbean) — Taiwanese media have reported the death of a 25-year-old female exchange student from St. Kitts and Nevis who was found unresponsive inside a university dormitory in Taipei on Saturday, September 5.

According to reports from ETtoday, United Daily News and other Taiwanese outlets, the young woman was studying at National Taiwan University.

The reports said students were required to complete accommodation procedures connected with the new academic term. After the student reportedly failed to visit the dormitory supervisor’s office before the deadline, a supervisor went to check her room.

She was subsequently found unresponsive. Emergency personnel were reportedly called at approximately 3:36 p.m., and the student was taken to National Taiwan University Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Taiwanese police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. Media reports indicate that a written note and other personal items were recovered from the room. However, the note reportedly did not clearly explain what may have led to her death.

The precise cause and circumstances have therefore not been officially established publicly.

Because the student was a foreign national, Taiwanese authorities reportedly notified the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and relevant overseas representatives so that her relatives could be contacted. Local media also reported that further examination would be conducted as part of the formal investigative process after arrangements were made with her family.

As of publication, Times Caribbean had not located a public statement from the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis identifying the student or independently confirming all details contained in the Taiwanese reports.

Her name is being withheld out of respect for her privacy and to allow the appropriate authorities to complete the family-notification process.

The news has understandably caused concern across St. Kitts and Nevis, a small and closely connected nation with many students pursuing higher education in Taiwan. Members of the public are encouraged to avoid speculation and the unauthorised circulation of the student’s identity while her family and loved ones face an extraordinarily difficult period.
