Regional women’s NGO hails election of SKNLP’s Marsha Henderson

BASSETERRE, ST KITTS, AUGUST 9, 2022 – The Caribbean Women in Leadership (CIWiL) has hailed the election of the St Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) lone female candidate to the St Kitts and Nevis National Assembly following the August 5, 2022 general election.

SKNLP’s Marsha Henderson was elected in a three-way race which pitted outgoing Member of Parliament, Jonel Powell and Nubian Greaux of the People’s Labour Party (PLP) for the St Christopher 2 – Central Basseterre seat.

Henderson, a lawyer by profession in her first attempt received 1,841 votes to Jonel Powell’s, 737 and PLP’s Nubian Greaux, 707.

“Caribbean Women in Leadership wishes to congratulate Hon Marsha Henderson, MP, who secured her seat in the St Kitts and Nevis General Election 2022,” CIWil posted on its platforms.

Three other females candidates were Jacqueline Bryan of the PLP, Natasha Grey-Brookers of the PAM and Akilah Byron-Nisbett of the PLP.

Caribbean Women in Leadership (CIWiL) is a non-political, multi-partisan, and independent NGO established to monitor, strengthen and increase women’s political participation and leadership in the region through advocacy, networking, research and capacity building initiatives.

The mission of CIWiL is to enable women to participate equally in leadership and decision-making in all spheres, through strategies of advocacy, education, training and mentoring, dialogue and active listening, participatory action, solidarity and partnership building, and conflict mediation and resolution.
