CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS, August 8, 2017 (PLP PR Media Inc.) — Prime Minister and National Political Leader of the Peoples Labour Party (PLP) one of the three parties in the ruling Team Unity Administration, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris, spent time Monday (August 7) afternoon freely mingling with revellers at the Herbert’s Beach Affair in Nevis.
The Herbert’s Beach Affair which is an activity of the Nevis’ Culturama Festival is held on Herbert’s Beach in the St. James Parish as one of the final acts of the acclaimed Culturama Festival which draws multitudes of nationals and returning nationals to Nevis’ shores. In its 43rd edition, this year’s Culturama Festival had the opportunity to welcome Prime Minister Harris to one of its activities.
“I am greatly honoured by the very warm welcome that was accorded to me by the revellers at the Herbert’s Beach Affair,” said the Prime Minister. “I am particularly pleased by the orderliness that was observed at this event even though there were many people from different backgrounds who were united in the celebration of Nevis’ culture.”
Dr Harris, who is also the Minister of National Security, had high praise for members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force for their presence at the event which had started at 1:00 pm. He also praised Culturama officials for organising another successful festival.
Arriving from St. Kitts on a water taxi, the Prime Minister who was accompanied by the Peoples Labour Party’s Deputy National Chairman Mr Craig Tuckett was well received by the enthusiastic revellers most of whom demanded to have a picture taken with him when he got to where they were.
“The 43rd edition of Culturama has brought our people together as there were a number of returning nationals who were on our shores, and not forgetting the large numbers of Kittitians who travelled to Nevis to support Culturama,” said the Prime Minister.
“Of note was the Cottle-Prentice Liburd Descendants Family Reunion 2017 which brought a good amount of Nevisians scattered around the globe back to their motherland for this important reunion. More such family reunions are important if we are going to successfully live in unity as our people have elected to do on their own accord.”
Mr Bostun Chiverton from St. Croix extended his hand to shake hands with the Prime Minister and he told him: “You are doing a great job Mr Prime Minister.” He was part of the Cottle-Prentice Liburd Descendants Family Reunion 2017. Some members of the group posed for a picture with the Prime Minister.
“That was very nice of the Prime Minister,” said Ms Jackie Chiverton of Tampa, Florida USA. “I did not expect that we can meet the Prime Minister who has come to see his people at the Herbert’s Beach Affair. I brought my daughter with me and we have thoroughly enjoyed the time we have had here. The Prime Minister made it even better for us.”
Among those who met the Prime Minister at the Herbert’s Beach Affair included Speaker of the National Assembly, the Hon A. Michael Perkins, two former Culturama Calypso Kings, Mr Clefton ‘King Meeko’ Warner and Mr Keith ‘King Dis An Dat’ Scarborough.
Prime Minister, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris who is also the Minister of Finance took time to chat with booth owners who were selling an assortment of foods and drinks. When he stopped at a booth being operated by Mrs Gloria Cranston he bought soft drinks from her, and she told him that she knew one of his cousins and she called out the cousin’s name. This is a result of the fact that the Prime Minister has family in Nevis and he always says that his father was born in Nevis.
Also joining the Prime Minister in Nevis was PLP Constituency Number Two (Central Basseterre) Branch Chairman Mr Nubian Greaux. Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Labour Party Mr Craig Tuckett who had travelled with the Prime Minister said he was very happy at the way people in Nevis welcomed their leader.
“It is evident from this visit that Prime Minister Dr the Hon Timothy Harris is very much loved by the people in Nevis who did not shy away from posing for pictures with him,” said Mr Tuckett. “They got all they wanted because the Prime Minister is a man of the people who feels at home with his people. Many love him even more for the love he has for children. He will not pass a child without holding it in his hands.”
