St.Kitts-Nevis Team Unity Government Launches New Students Assistance Programme S.A.F.E
Basseterre, St. Kitts, (August 31, 2016):- Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Hon. Shawn K. Richards through the Ministry of Education has announced the launch and establishment of a new Student Assistance Programe known as SAFE (Supporting Advancement of Further Education). The SAFE programme (Recognizing Everyone’s Ability to Climb Higher) programme for students enrolled in the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC), AVEC (Advanced Vocational Education Centre), Nevis Sixth Form, and University of the West Indies (UWI) Level One Programme, has been restructured and is now called.

Students applying to the SAFE programme will be awarded on a needs basis based on criteria established by the Department of Social Services. The programme will cover the costs of registration, books and exam fees, in addition to a stipend of EC$250.00 per month to cover lunch and ground transportation. The annual incentive allowance of EC $1000.00 will be continued for students who excel in the disciplines of English, French, Spanish, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Pure Mathematics and Applied Mathematics. These students must receive a Grade One or Two in these areas. Additionally, those students who receive grants will have to provide four (4) hours of voluntary service per month, which will be supervised by the Department of Youth Empowerment.
In St. Kitts, the SAFE programme will be coordinated through the SELF Office.
In Nevis, registration forms can be collected at the Nevis Sixth Form and the Ministry of Education. Completed registration forms should be delivered to the Principal Education Officer in the Ministry of Education in Nevis. In St. Kitts, forms can be collected at the CFBC, AVEC and the Education Annex in Greenlands. The completed application forms should be delivered to the SELF Unit in the Ministry of Education in St. Kitts.
