In an unprecedented move, civil servants in St. Kitts and Nevis are taking legal action against the government, led by Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew , for its failure to provide a safe and secure working environment. The lawsuit comes as a response to the overwhelming prevalence of hazardous mold in government offices and facilities over the last two years.

This legal battle, documented under the case number SKBHCV2023/0122, marks a significant milestone not only in the Federation but also regionally, as it addresses the issue of mold-related health hazards in the workplace. A civil servant, represented by attorney Azard Gumbs, is leading the charge against the Attorney General’s Chambers, highlighting negligence on behalf of the government in ensuring the well-being of its employees.

The Crown has requested an extension of time to file a defense, indicating the seriousness of the matter. The case is scheduled to be heard before the master in chambers, shedding light on the urgent need for action to rectify the situation. The lawsuit underscores the importance of workplace safety and the accountability of governmental bodies in ensuring the health and welfare of their employees.
