PRESS RELEASE:-The Commonwealth Secretariat’s Countering Violent Extremism Unit has selected two individuals in that Ms.Zanda Desir and Ms.Genitta Pascal to attend a regional young leader’s workshop in Nassau, Bahamas from the 16th -21st July 2017, representing Saint Lucia.
These two young women serve as peace ambassadors to the Commonwealth Youth Peace Ambassadors Network. The Commonwealth Youth Peace Ambassadors Network (CYPAN) brings together young people from across the Commonwealth to upscale and optimise grassroots, national, regional and Pan-Commonwealth efforts to promote peace, respect & understanding and preventing violent extremism. Ms.Zanda Desir currently serve as the Membership and Partnership Coordinator whilst Ms.Genitta Pascal serve as the Country Coordinator to Saint Lucia.
Portraits of the Caribbean, a youth led project, seeks to challenge extremism through creativity. This project runs under the theme “BUILDING COMMUNITY COHESION AND RESILIENCE AGAINST EXTREMISM.”
Twenty young people from across the Caribbean will be equipped with the tools, awareness and the safe space to discuss pertinent issues, bringing to the table new, fun and innovative mechanisms to address such throughout their various communities.
