BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, June 25, 2019 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – Prime Minister and Minister of National Security, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris reiterated on Monday, June 24, that his Team Unity-led administration is fully committed to the peaceful transformation of St. Kitts and Nevis to being the best managed small island state.

Understanding that there can be no transformation without the preservation of peace, law and order, the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis continues to pursue aggressive legislative reform, as well as providing financial investments in the infrastructure and human resource of the country.

“That is why we are investing in CCTV programmes to assist the police in improvements in their investigation and to assist in getting better evidence to take to the courts so that those who do wrong and transgress the laws can be dealt with in accordance with our laws,” the prime minister said while addressing a gathering that included members of the Federal Cabinet, representatives of the Police and Defence Force High Command, as well as private sector officials, at the ground-breaking ceremony for the $2.4 million Explorers Youth Club Headquarters at Mol Phil Extension.

Prime Minister Harris further indicated that within the context of the resources of the state “we have been and are doing all that we can to maintain peace and safety.”

Evidence of this include the increase in the fleet of vehicles for law enforcement agencies, significant investment in the training of law enforcement officers, the rehabilitation of key public infrastructure including police stations, and the marked improvement in the technological capabilities of the security agencies, particularly with the establishment of a forensics lab at the Tabernacle Police Station and the introduction of a multi-million dollar Motorola radio project that will enable GPS tracking capabilities for police officers.

These investments in the national security infrastructure of the country were all made possible by the year-on-year increases in the budgetary allocations to the Ministry of National Security by the Dr. Harris-led Team Unity administration.
