Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris Remembers The Sick At Christmas Time, Promises To Improve The Health Care System In 2016
Basseterre, St. Kitts, December 25, 2015 (SKNIS): Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris is remembering those who are ill, especially those warded at health institutions this Christmas. He said that he had visited the hospitals in the federation with officials from the Ministry of Health to bring cheer and comfort to the sick especially at this time of year, while promising to improve the Federation’s Health Care System in 2016.
“I had the pleasure of visiting the in-patients and out-patients at our hospitals as the Ministry of Health brought Christmas cheer and comfort to them. The contrast was very telling between the respective situations of these patients- being beneficiaries of Institutional care – and the humble circumstances of Christ’s miraculous birth where no such luxuries existed,” Dr. Harris said in his first Christmas Day address as prime minister.
“I am delighted that in 2016 we will provide extensive refurbishment at Mary Charles Hospital; an oncology centre for our cancer patients; a mental health day treatment centre; greater inter-connectivity among our health entities, and even more. It pleases me to know that these positive developments are happening under a Team Unity Government,” he added
The Dr. Harris-led Administration just wrapped up the 2016 budget debate on December 21, where the Ministry of Health was allocated $46.1 million for its recurrent expenditure for the 2016 fiscal year, reflecting an increase of $5.5 million or 13.6 percent over the 2015 Budget.
