Port of Spain, Trinidad (March 31st 2016) :-POLICE officers are investigating a report that a man claiming to be the adviser to prime ministers of Caribbean countries has failed to pay a ­widowed proprietor more than $150,000 in rent.
The man, who said he was an expatriate born in St Kitts and worked in Trinidad for several years, particularly at a well-known hotel in Port of Spain, also purported that he was working on Government projects, including the highway to Point Fortin.
‘He said he met with Rowley’
The man told the landlord he had meetings with Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley.
Attorney Hansraj Bhola, who is representing the interest of the ­widow, said the man, who spoke with a foreign accent, entered into an agreement with his client back in January.
The man agreed to pay her $7,500 per month to rent an apartment and $45,000 for a two-storey commercial space. He said the man kept assuring the rent money was being wire transferred to the assigned bank account.
Bhola told the Express the man also said his company was able to build a 50-foot-wide steel gate in front the commercial building and was given money by his client to erect the gate.
This, the attorney said, was yet to be done.
He said at present furniture in the apartment was destroyed by the man or those he allowed access to the apartment. The man was last contacted via telephone two weeks ago.
The victim made a report to a ­senior police officer at the San Fernando Criminal Investigation Department.
The man could be charged with fraud should he be caught.
