BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, July 5, 2017 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, is expected to address his CARICOM colleagues today, Wednesday, July 5, during the business session of the Thirty-Eighth Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).

The business session of the Heads of Government meeting is being held at the Radisson Grenada Beach Resort in St. Georges, Grenada.

Prime Minister Harris, in his capacity as CARICOM’s lead spokesman on health matters, is expected to focus his address on the 10thanniversary of the Port-of-Spain Declaration on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).

Convinced that the burdens of NCDs can be reduced by comprehensive and integrated preventive and control strategies and through collaborative programmes, partnerships and policies, CARICOM Heads in 2007 signed the ground-breaking Port-of-Spain Declaration aimed at uniting to stop the epidemic of NCDs.

Prime Minister Harris, who is accompanied at this week’s meeting by Deputy Prime Minister, the Honourable Shawn Richards; Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister, Andrew Skerritt; and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Kaye Bass, joined his fellow Heads of Government at the opening ceremony on Tuesday at the Grenada Trade Centre.

Tuesday’s commencement ceremony included speeches by host Prime Minister, Dr. the Right Hon. Keith Mitchell, CARICOM Secretary-General Irwin LaRocque, as well as addresses from the Prime Minister of The Bahamas and the Presidents of Haiti and Guyana.
