ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI –Shanel A. Taylor, daughter of Agnes and Alphonso Taylor, of Westbury Village Nevis, successfully completed her Bar Professional Training Course at the University of Law incorporating the College of Law London, and was admitted to the Bar of England and Wales, in 2013 , by the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple. She holds a Bachelors of Laws, with Honours, from De Montfort University, Leicester United Kingdom.

Attorney Taylor was called to the Virgin Islands Bar on the 26th of October 2016 in Tortola and has joined the prestigious Law Firm of Thornton-Smith at their Virgin Islands (VI) office as an Associate on the heels of the firm’s  strategic alliance with William K.Y. Leung & Co. of Hong Kong, where Mr William Leung serves as their  Special Counsel for the Asia-Pacific Region.

Ms Taylor was awarded a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) First Class from De Montfort University in 2011, which according to the independent UK publication, University League Tables & Rankings 2017, is one of the top 50 law schools in the UK. She obtained her Professional Diploma in Bar Professional Studies at the University of Law incorporating the College of Law in 2013 and is a member of The Honourable Society of the Middle Temple.

Since qualifying for practice, Ms Taylor has also become a certified mediator and seeks to bring her training to the firm’s  dispute resolution practice group with a focus on developing her skills as an arbitrator as the VI prepares for the soft opening of its International Arbitration Center on November 16, 2016.

Coupled with the arbitration experience of both the Founder and Principal, Mr Jamal S. Smith, and Special Counsel for the AsiaPacific Region, Mr William Leung, as members of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, helps to reposition Thornton-Smith in the field of alternative dispute resolution.

Thornton-Smith has been recognised as a recommended expert for the Virgin Islands by the leading industry publication, The World Trademark Review, and continues to amass various awards for its corporate work. The addition of Ms Taylor will help to bolster that professional reputation into 2017 and beyond.
