Embassy of St. Kitts and Nevis in Taiwan Spreads ‘SKNLOVE’ with Book Donation

The Embassy of Saint Kitts and Nevis in the Republic of China (Taiwan) continues its mission to spread ‘SKNLOVE’ with its third book donation event, held on Wednesday, March 27th, 2024. Hosted at the New Taipei City Hall, this initiative is part of the Embassy’s ‘Sharing Kindness and Nurturing Love- SKNLOVE’ outreach program.

His Excellency Donya L. Francis, Saint Kitts and Nevis’ Ambassador to Taiwan, presented 12 books authored by Kittitian and Nevisian writers to Mayor Hou You Ih of New Taipei City. The donated books encapsulate the vibrant culture, rich heritage, and colorful folklore of Saint Kitts and Nevis, providing readers with a vivid glimpse into the islands’ essence.

Ambassador Francis expressed his enthusiasm for these literary works, emphasizing their role as vehicles that transport readers to the enchanting landscapes of Saint Kitts and Nevis. He conveyed his hope that residents in and around New Taipei City would enjoy and appreciate these literary treasures.

In reciprocation, Mayor Hou You Yi extended his gratitude for the donated books, highlighting the bond of friendship between the people and governments of Saint Kitts and Nevis and New Taipei City. As a gesture of goodwill, he presented Ambassador Francis with a set of picture books showcasing the beauty of the city.

Assisting the Embassy in this endeavor were Tronnicia Flanders and Tawanna Collins, senior International Business and Trade students at Ming Chuan University. They provided introductions to the books and recited Nevisian poet Vanessa Webbe’s poem ‘Mr. Masquerade Man’. Miss Collins also performed a captivating masquerade dance, adding a touch of cultural flair to the event.

The donated books encompassed a diverse range of topics, including children’s stories, historical narratives, and cultural insights. Notable works included ‘My ABC Book About St. Kitts and Nevis’ by Kayrisa Kelly, ‘Oma Lu’s visit’ by Keimon Archibald-Lake, and ‘Masquerade Dance’ by Carol Ottley-Mitchell.

Ambassador Francis also contributed two of his self-published children’s books from the Uncle Donya series, further enriching the collection.

This event marks the third installment of the Embassy’s book donation initiative, following successful events at the National Central Library in Taipei in June 2022 and the Kaohsiung Public Library in March 2023.

Through these efforts, the Embassy of Saint Kitts and Nevis in Taiwan endeavors to foster cultural exchange, promote literacy, and strengthen the bonds of friendship between the two nations.
