One of the heroes of our land has ended his journey on earth. A historian, an educator, a politician, a father, and a friend. To him I say “thank you my friend and my mentor, we will be forever be indebted to you”. There could be no doubt that your contribution has helped to create a better society, a more educated people, and a more united federation.
As a young teacher at 17 years old, I was honored to have him as my first headmaster. He had foresight and vision. He wante…d to reform the education system to make it more relevant to our people’s aspirations.
I could also recall the moment when the Carnival Committe turned down my request to allow me to start a Youth Calypso Competition as part of national carnival. Washie quickly stepped in and said ….. lets show them by having a Junior hIgh School Calypso competition. The rest is history. Not to mention that a year earlier while I was pondering on the name to use as I began my calyso career, it was Washie who boldly announced to the school that King Sweeney and the Mighty Washie will be singing on the school show. Of course he bailed out on me

🙂In a way, Washie could be described as the Father of Team Unity. In 2010 while PAM and Labour were aggressively campaigning, Washie was the sole voice calling for unity after cleansing the parties of corrupt leader(s).
I pray that this giant will rest in peace and I am confident that together we can unite and say “thanks for a job well done”.
RIP Sir Washington Archibald.
