Celebrated Caribbean Children’s Book Author and Storyteller to appear in Randolph, MA. USA
Randolph, MA, (August 15, 2015): – On September 11th and 12th, 2015, children and families in Randolph will be treated to storytelling events by celebrated children’s book author Carol Ottley-Mitchell.
Ms. Mitchell who has expressed her excitement in visiting Randolph is the author of twelve children’s books including the four middle grade novels of the Caribbean Adventure Series.
The visit of Ms. Mitchell who hails from St. Kitts and Nevis in the Caribbean but resides in Virginia is being made possible by Randolph Town Councillor Ken Clifton.
“We want our children’s horizons broadened and their literary skills enhanced and enriched,” explained Councillor Clifton. “We are honored and privileged to host such a distinguished and celebrated author and it is our hope that all our children and families will take advantage of this unique opportunity,” concluded Councillor Clifton.
Ms. Mitchell commended Councillor Clifton for his initiative and explained that “Books often serve as windows into other worlds, windows that generate curiosity in readers and also foster understanding between cultures.” “The Caribbean Adventure Series gives children a glimpse into Caribbean life that shows them that children have similar hopes and fears across cultures,” suggested Ms. Mitchell . “I am always happy for the opportunity to expose new communities to my work and I am thrilled to be visiting with the children in Randolph,” she concluded.
Meaghan Thompson, Director of the Turner Free Library who is helping to coordinate the author’s visit said the community is looking forward to hosting Ms. Mitchell. “I strongly encourage all families to attend what is expected to be an exciting event,” said Ms. Thompson.
On her visit to Randolph, Ms. Mitchell will be a guest at the Young and JFK Elementary Schools on September 11 and will make her appearance at the Turner Free Library on Saturday, September 12 at 2.00 pm where she will engage with the children in reading and other activities.
