AFTER 2 YEARS OF ECONOMIC TURMOIL AND FISCAL MISMANAGEMENT, PM DREW PLEDGES 2025 RECOVERY AND RENEWED GROWTH

Basseterre, St. Kitts – In a bold New Year’s address to the nation, Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew has promised a full recovery from what critics have described as two and a half years of economic mismanagement, social upheaval, and policy failures.

Dr. Drew acknowledged the dire economic challenges facing the Federation, including the disbanding of crucial social programs such as the Poverty Alleviation Programme (PAP) and the Peace Programme, the absence of major capital projects, dwindling foreign investment, and a staggering 50% decline in Citizenship by Investment (CBI) revenue due to controversial policy reforms introduced by his government.

“These last two years have been challenging, but I am committed to making 2025 a turning point. It will be a year of recovery, rebuilding, and renewed focus on growing our economy,” the prime minister declared.

Economic Collapse and Public Backlash
The Federation has experienced widespread criticism for what many describe as an economic free fall since Dr. Drew’s administration came to power. Residents have lamented the loss of social programs that provided critical support to vulnerable communities, while business leaders have pointed to the sharp downturn in CBI revenue as a key factor behind the economic slowdown.

Capital projects, once a cornerstone of national development, have ground to a halt, leaving infrastructure and employment opportunities stagnant. The lack of foreign investment has further compounded the nation’s financial struggles.

2025: A Year of Recovery
In his address, Dr. Drew outlined a vision for recovery, emphasizing the need to diversify the country’s economic base and stimulate the development of emerging sectors, with a particular focus on the creative economy.

“The time has come for St. Kitts and Nevis to embrace innovation and build a resilient economic framework. Diversification is no longer an option; it is a necessity,” he asserted.

The prime minister also pledged to restore confidence in the CBI program, which has long been a pillar of the Federation’s economic strategy.

Skepticism Lingers
Despite his assurances, many citizens remain skeptical. Critics have labeled the government’s handling of the economy as “reckless” and questioned whether the recovery plan will address the underlying issues or merely serve as a political smokescreen.

Opposition voices have called for greater transparency and accountability, pointing to the administration’s failure to deliver tangible results during its tenure.

Hope on the Horizon?
Dr. Drew’s New Year’s message struck a tone of optimism and resilience, urging citizens to rally behind the recovery effort. “Together, we can overcome these challenges and build a brighter future for St. Kitts and Nevis,” he concluded.

As 2025 begins, all eyes will be on the administration’s ability to deliver on its promises and restore hope to a nation eager for change. Whether this marks a new chapter of prosperity or more of the same remains to be seen.
