A crew member of the Carnival Valor cruise ship has been charged with the rape of a passenger.

According to information received, while the ship was docked at Port Zante, St. Kitts on Friday (June 6), police responded to a report of a sexual assault against a female passenger.

They investigated the report and took a crew member into custody that same day. The cruise vessel left port later than its scheduled time due to the incident.

The Observer understands the individual was charged with the offense over the long weekend.

Upon questioning Police PRO Inspector Lyndon David confirmed that “someone has been charged for an incident”.

The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force has jurisdiction to investigate and/or arrest once a crime has been reported in sovereign waters or airspace.
