Basseterre, St. Kitts, October 28, 2015 (RSCNPF)- The Officers of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) have been benefiting from a number of theory and practical training courses over the last couple of months, to which the Acting Commissioner of Police, Mr. Stafford Liburd commented by expressing that he sees a more peaceful St. Kitts and Nevis in the Future, due to the vast amount of training the officers are receiving.

“I see an even more peaceful St. Kitts and Nevis in the days and months to come because of these training sessions being offered to the officers.”

COP (Ag) Liburd made this statement at the Closing Ceremony held to commemorate the officer’s participation in an ‘Investigative Interview Course’, held earlier today, Wednesday 28^th October 2015, at the Police Training Complex.

Within his remarks, the Acting Commissioner further stated that he is of the view that cases have been dismissed in the past due to a lack of knowledge in the relative fields. He added that training will assist this issue.

“…Skills must be known and must be demonstrated…. We have to reduce the ability of them [criminals] out maneuvering us…. Regardless of age, gender and who the person is, we must have the ability to bring criminals to justice…. We are prepared to question you [criminals] following the laws to achieve our objective.”

He advised the officers present to pay attention to the skills and training be offered, irrespective to their rank and departments they are attached to.

The Investigative Interview Course which was facilitated in conjunction with representatives from the Bramshill Policing Advisors (BPA), more specifically in the person of Mr. John Bailey, was a two weeks course where the first week was fixed on managing crime scenes, the golden hour, building blocks, decision making, witness management, four phase approach, cognitive interview, listening skills, questioning skills, practicals and the last week was focused on suspect management, lying behavior, lying indications, peace model of interviewing, practicals of initial account, managing challenges.

Mr. Bailey encouraged the participants to take their new found skills into the work place and share their training with their colleagues.

A total of 27 Officers of the RSCNPF and Officers of the Customs and Excise Department participated in this training exercise.
