Central Basseterre Community Leader Dameon Lawrence Calls Out Government on Failed NHC 2400 Smart Home Project

Basseterre, St. Kitts – Community advocate Dameon Lawrence has delivered a scathing critique of the much-touted East Coast Development and National Housing Corporation (NHC) 2400 Smart Home Project, calling it a monumental failure after two years with no visible progress.
In a fiery social media post, Lawrence dismantled the grand promises made in March 2023, which painted a vision of a transformative housing revolution featuring cutting-edge construction techniques, solar-powered homes, and water cisterns. The ambitious plan, he noted, was supposed to provide thousands with affordable housing and stimulate economic growth. Yet, two years later, the project appears to have vanished into thin air.
“What was pitched as the greatest housing initiative ever, seems to have ‘Poof!! E gone!’” Lawrence lamented. He recalled attending the town hall meeting at the McKnight Community Center in March 2023, where government officials outlined details on housing sizes, construction timelines, and financing. However, he was skeptical from the start.
According to Lawrence, the commitment to delivering 600 homes annually was flawed from the outset, raising serious concerns about feasibility. Even more troubling was the questionable prioritization system, which favored landowners over those still paying for property. He questioned how a government, in less than a year in office, could accurately determine demand and secure a stable environment for such a massive undertaking.
Among his most damning revelations was the lack of transparency surrounding the developer’s credentials. “Does the developer have a record on delivering such large-scale projects?” Lawrence recalled asking during the meeting. No confirmation was given, leaving him with little faith in the project’s execution. Two years later, with a staggering shortfall of 1,350 homes, his worst fears have been realized.
Now, Lawrence is demanding answers. “Where is the Full Disclosure the current AG had when referencing details of Stacio’s contract? Tell us what our government did with our money! What is the status on the millions used to guarantee a loan that is two years old with no homes to show?”
With mounting frustration among citizens who were promised a housing revolution, Lawrence’s bold challenge to the government is resonating across the nation. Home seekers who placed their trust in the administration’s grand vision are left questioning whether they were misled. The silence from government officials in response to Lawrence’s demands only fuels speculation about what truly happened to the millions allocated for the project.
As pressure mounts, the people of St. Kitts await a response—one that provides clarity, accountability, and, most importantly, the homes they were promised.
