Stuart Young Selected to Lead PNM, Set to Act as Prime Minister Upon Rowley’s Departure

Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago – In a significant announcement, Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley has revealed that Stuart Young has been chosen to lead the People’s National Movement (PNM) and will serve as Acting Prime Minister when Rowley demits office.

The revelation was made during the conclusion of a PNM parliamentary caucus retreat held in Tobago on Monday, January 6, 2025. Dr. Rowley, who has served as Prime Minister since 2015, hinted at his planned departure from office but assured that the party’s leadership transition has been carefully considered.

“Stuart Young has demonstrated exemplary leadership, dedication, and a deep understanding of the challenges facing Trinidad and Tobago,” Dr. Rowley stated. “I am confident he is the right person to lead the PNM into the future and to continue the work of advancing our nation.”

Young, who currently serves as a senior member of Rowley’s Cabinet, has played a pivotal role in several key policy initiatives and has been lauded for his decisive approach to governance. His selection marks a new chapter for the PNM as the party prepares for future elections and governance challenges.

While Dr. Rowley did not specify a timeline for his departure, the announcement has sparked widespread discussion about the direction of the PNM under Young’s leadership. Party insiders and political commentators view this decision as a strategic move to ensure stability and continuity within the party.

In his remarks, Young expressed gratitude for the confidence placed in him and pledged to uphold the values and principles of the PNM. “I am deeply honored by this opportunity to serve my party and my country. Together, we will work tirelessly to build on the progress achieved under Dr. Rowley’s leadership,” Young said.

As Trinidad and Tobago adjusts to the news, citizens are eagerly watching to see how this leadership transition will shape the nation’s political and economic landscape in the years to come.
