St. Kitts-Nevis Ambassador Ian Queeley Leads OECS Delegation in Strategic Prep Meeting Ahead of 16th MEDays Forum in Morocco
His Excellency Ian M. Queeley, OECS Ambassador in Morocco, spearheaded a high-level preparatory meeting with OECS Heads of Government in the lead-up to the 16th edition of the prestigious MEDays Forum, set to take place in Tangier, Morocco, from November 27 to 30, 2024.
This year’s forum, themed “Sovereignties and Resiliences: Towards a New Global Balance,” will focus on fostering dialogue to address the interconnected challenges faced by nations while safeguarding their sovereignty and independence. The event promises to explore how multipolarity can create opportunities for equitable and inclusive global collaboration.
Key participants in the preparatory session included Prime Minister Hon. Dickon Mitchell of Grenada, Prime Minister Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit of Dominica, and Prime Minister Hon. Philip J. Pierre of St. Lucia, alongside Ambassador Queeley, who represented the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. Together, they strategized on advancing Caribbean interests on the global stage, leveraging the MEDays platform to amplify the voices of small island developing states (SIDS) in global policy discussions.
The MEDays Forum, often dubbed the “Davos of the Global South,” will also shine a spotlight on Africa and the Global South, examining their unique challenges and opportunities within the shifting landscape of global power dynamics. The forum’s emphasis on unity and collaboration is expected to resonate strongly with the OECS delegation, which aims to highlight the importance of resilience, regional integration, and sustainable development in their interventions.
Ambassador Queeley, a key figure in facilitating stronger ties between the OECS and Morocco, emphasized the critical nature of this year’s discussions:
“This year’s MEDays Forum presents a pivotal opportunity for the OECS to engage with global leaders, positioning our region as a key stakeholder in conversations about a more equitable and balanced global order. It is through unity and strategic collaboration that we can ensure our voices are heard, our sovereignty respected, and our resilience strengthened.”
As the forum unfolds, the OECS delegation’s presence underscores the collective strength of the Caribbean in advocating for policies that address climate change, economic vulnerabilities, and the sustainable development of small island nations. The MEDays Forum is expected to foster partnerships and solutions that promote a more just and inclusive global framework for all nations.
