AG Wilkin Urged by PM Drew Advisor Wattley to Intervene and Bring Clarity to Stalled St. Kitts and Nevis Cannabis Industry
St. Kitts and Nevis Cannabis Industry Needs Clarity, Urges PM Drew Advisor
In a recent podcast, Duncan Wattley, a former advisor to Prime Minister Dr. Hon. Terrance Drew, highlighted the urgent need for clarity in St. Kitts and Nevis’ stagnant cannabis industry which is under the purview and leadership of Minister Samal Duggins. In addition to lacking an announced Board of Directors Advisor Wattley emphasized that the industry lacks clear legislation governing its operations.
Wattley called upon Attorney-General Hon. Garth Wilkin to intervene and provide much-needed clarity to the legislation surrounding the cannabis industry. He stressed the importance of refining existing laws to address lingering ambiguities and discrepancies.
“There are some laws that need to be refined,” Wattley stated in his podcast. “The marijuana issue has been dragging on for too long, and people are still unclear about various aspects of it.”
Wattley underscored the confusion surrounding regulations concerning personal cultivation and possession of marijuana, urging authorities to provide clear guidelines to avoid legal ambiguity.
“We need some clarity in the marijuana issue,” Wattley insisted. “Attorney-General Wilkin must provide guidance to law enforcement to prevent confusion that could escalate into larger issues.”
Wattley’s plea reflects growing concerns among stakeholders about the lack of progress in St. Kitts and Nevis’ cannabis industry. With clarity and proper legislation, the industry could potentially thrive, benefiting both the economy and the community.
