In a recent announcement by Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew, St. Kitts and Nevis was celebrated for achieving the top position among CARICOM nations in the 2023-24 Human Development Report (HDR) released by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). However, a closer look at the data reveals a more nuanced story.

While PM Drew attributed this success to the leadership of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) Administration, it’s essential to clarify that the data used for the report was collected up to September 2022, under the tenure of the former Prime Minister, Dr. Hon. Timothy Harris.

The UNDP Report, titled “Uncertain Times, Unsettled Lives: Shaping our Future in a Transforming World,” used data up to 2022, showcasing St. Kitts and Nevis’ impressive progress during that period. The report highlighted various indices, including the Human Development Index (HDI), Inequality-Adjusted Human Development Index (IHDI), Gender Development Index (GDI), Gender Inequality Index (GII), Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI), and the Planetary pressure-adjusted Human Development Index (PHDI).

Acknowledging the achievements made during Dr. Harris’s administration is crucial, as the policies and initiatives implemented during that time significantly contributed to St. Kitts and Nevis’ high ranking in the UNDP Report.
