Basseterre, St. Kitts, May 23, 2019 (SKNIS): The St. Kitts and Nevis Fire and Rescue Services (SKNFRS) commemorated its 19th Anniversary as a distinct organization from the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force on May 17, 2019 at the Bay Road in Basseterre with a fire drill competition between six local fire stations and fire officers from the Antigua and Barbuda Fire Department.

Mr. Lesroy Caines, Fire Sub Station Officer at the SKNFRS, explained what the competition was about. “Where there are the different fire stations, firstly, there is a local event and there is an international event. In the local fire stations’ open competition, (officers) compete in different fire drills,” he said. Some of these drills include the one man/person drill, the endurance drill and the five-man drill.

The winners for the competition included FO Galloway for local Endurance, WFO Roberts for one woman drill, RICO Gumbs from St. Kitts for the one man drill international and fire officer Otine Beazer of Antigua and Barbuda for the endurance international.
Mr. Caines said that the purpose of the fire drill competition is to bring awareness to the public about what the SKNFRS does.

According to its official website, the St. Kitts and Nevis Fire and Rescue Services became severed by Law from the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force on the 4th January in the year 2000 under the Fire and Rescue Services Act 6/99.
