Basseterre, St. Kitts, February 11, 2019 (SKNIS): Senior Minister and Minister of Labour, the Honourable Vance Amory, assured factory workers of government’s commitment to maintain industrial harmony, during Cabinet’s visit to the manufacturing sector on Monday, February 11, 2019 at the C.A. Paul Southwell Industrial Site. “The government is interested in the welfare of both the employer and the workers…because if we don’t have that harmony, that good relations, we do not think that we will have the kind of productivity and the good news, which you have reported this morning and that really is our function as the Ministry of Labour,” he said, while addressing staff and management at Kajola Kristada Ltd. Kajola Kristada Ltd. presently employs 109 employees. Jose Rosa, General Manager of Kajola Kristada Ltd., said that the organization is expected to employ 10-20 more persons in 2019 with another possible 35 when it introduces its new equipment and product. “That has to be good news for all of us in St. Kitts and Nevis and we just want the people who have an interest. I know you have your special training and recruitment priorities but if there is anything the Ministry of Labour could do to assist we are happy to do that,” said Minister Amory. “…we have set up a data bank with persons and their qualifications and the work they would like to do so that you could tap them for any resource which you might need, and they will no doubt be prepared to provide that.” In addition to Kajola Kristada Ltd, Cabinet also visited Lutron Liamuiga; Jaro Electronics; St. Kitts Carib Brewery, and Harowe Servo in Sandy Point. They were accompanied by the Labour Commissioner, Shernel James and other senior labour officers in the Department of Labour. The visits formed part of the Team Unity Administration’s fourth Anniversary Calendar of Activities under the theme: “TEAM UNITY: Making Dreams a Reality in Every Community!!!” |
