BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, May 14, 2018 (PLP PR Media Inc.) — Prime Minister, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris, has on behalf of the Government and people of St. Kitts and Nevis thanked and recognised all the Federation’s Moms and Mother Figures for their essential role in shaping and safeguarding the society’s future.
In a statement released Sunday May 13 on the occasion of Mother’s Day, Prime Minister Harris stated: “Today, our Nation’s Mothers are being celebrated and honoured by children and families who are thinking, saying and singing, ‘Thank God for a Mother like mine. My dear precious Mother means so much to me. She has always been so true and kind’.”
According to Prime Minister Harris, the Mother’s Day message of love and gratitude from near and far permeated the homes, churches and airwaves, while gifts, flowers and special family meals also showed the Nation’s Moms that all of them are cherished.
“It is my wish that this spirit of togetherness, communion and camaraderie strengthens and unites our families, homes and communities as we acknowledge the redeeming nature of Motherly Love,” observed Dr Harris.
“Oh, how sweet is this love!” continued the Prime Minister. “It has been and is so freely given to us not only by our Mothers, but also by women who serve as caregivers, guardians and mentors, day by day guiding, nurturing, supporting and teaching countless children despite them not being their own.”
In wishing a happy Mother’s Day to all, Dr Harris’s message concluded: “Mommy, Mom, Momma, Aunty, Goddy, or however you are lovingly called, you should know that on this Mother’s Day – and, indeed, every day – we affirm and applaud your selfless devotion and immeasurable contributions.”
In the meantime, Prime Minister Harris, who is also the National Political Leader of the Peoples Labour Party (PLP), and the Area Parliamentary Representative for St. Christopher Number Seven, joined mothers and members of PLP Branch #7 Women Empowerment Group for a Mother’s Day church service at Christ Church Anglican Church.
The service was moderated by Father Derek Sawyer who welcomed Prime Minister Harris and members of the women’s group to church. The sermon, titled ‘Women of Great Influence’ touching on the great deeds of Esther and Hanna in the Old Testament, and Lois and Eunice in the New Testament, was delivered by Lay Reader Mr James Clarke.
Accompanied by a number of fathers, members of the PLP Branch #7 Women Empowerment Group led by Mrs Sonia Henry, who is also on the PLP’s National Executive as a Women’s Arm Representative, were later treated to a Mother’s Day Luncheon at the Timothy Beach Resort, where Prime Minister Harris presented them with Mother’s Day gifts.
Other Peoples Labour Party officials included National Youth Arm Representative Mr Manasses Huggins, PLP Founding Member Mr William Phillip, Head of PLP’s Protocol Desk Ms Jacqueline Prentice, and PLP Constituency Number Four Branch Chairperson Ms Petrona Thomas.
